Taxi Violence marks 10 with new album

That Cape Town-based rock band that had the balls to shoot down a record deal after winning a battle of the bands competition - Taxi Violence - it appears they're still on a winning streak as they mark 10 years in the South African music industry.

They're still at it, currently in the recording studio, hard at work on their fifth album. It will be a milestone album for the band, as the scheduled release date will coincide with their tenth birthday in September 2014.

Looking back at all Taxi’s achievements and accolades over the last decade, it’s difficult for the band to choose one big highlight. Having singles charting on radio stations in South Africa and Germany; headlining every major local festival; racking up five MK Awards and three SAMA nominations; touring abroad; supporting acts like Powderfinger, Billy Talent and Seether are just a few in a list of many accomplishments for the band.

Nostalgia within the camp

“Being in a band for ten years is something special and real. It means that we got together for the right reasons. It’s a great honour to be doing this for so long, and it’s all thanks to the people that have supported us over the years,” says lead singer George van der Spuy.

Taxi Violence are preparing 11 brand new tracks for their tenth anniversary album, recording half of the album themselves at Van Der Spuy’s Cape Town studio, Kill City Blues during May. They have revealed that working on this album (still untitled) has brewed a sense of nostalgia within the camp, and excitement levels are at an all-time high.
