SA rock legends take the stage
Mel Botes, Piet Botha, Albert Frost, Robin Auld, Nathan Smith and Mauritz Lotz are to take the stage in Riders from the Storm production. The show, first launched in 2012, will now feature more original compositions, collaborations and more instruments.
The debut performance of Riders from the Storm was held at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria in February 2012. The pilot event featured guitarists Mel Botes, Piet Botha, Albert Frost, Mauritz Lotz, Valiant Swart and Nathan Smith as the mystery guest.
Since inception, a mystery guest performer has contributed to the lineup. In every show the sixth mystery guest is recruited from guitarists who play in popular rock bands, session musicians and solo artists. Previous mystery performers include the likes of Terence Reis (Dire Straits frontman), Jan Blohm, Dozi, Francois van Coke, Akkedis and Gerald Clark.

Mel Botes initiative
Riders from the Storm is an initiative undertaken by South African rock guitarist, Mel Botes, wearing his producer's cap. He is renowned for his craftsmanship on the electric guitar, his interpretations of legendary classics, his original compositions and, more recently, his classical repertoire. Botes himself is an accomplished guitarist. Popular shows featuring his talents have included; the sellout, Crazy Diamond - A tribute to Pink Floyd, Sultans of Swing - A tribute to Dire Straits, and his own production; David’s Confession - About Time, Chapter II.
Riders from the Storm is directed by Richard H Nosworthy, who has collaborated with Mel Botes on numerous other productions. The performers are supported by a band, made up of top SA drummer Ghapi, Johan Kelber and Charles Geer.
The launch of the new version of Riders from the Storm will take place at 8pm on 25 June 2014 at the newly refurbished Theatre of Marcellus, Emperors Palace. Tickets are available from Computicket at R120.
