Take control of your art - The Plastics

4 Dec 2014 7:09 AM

The Plastics are back from Europe and it sounds like they've had a whirlwind of a time. They're back home with some insights to share after attending Nouvelle Prague, but don't expect them to stay too long - the indie rockers plan on taking their music on a global escapade...

Projet Loud: So, your very first European tour - how'd that go? Where was your favourite spot?

The Plastics: "We had an absolute blast and will no doubt be headed back as soon as possible. We made great friends and probably tried every European beer ever. There are no favourites, each city was totally unique. Prague was visually amazing and the people were very enthusiastic during our performance. Berlin was gritty and urban and there were so many interesting, crazily creative people it really was too much to take in during our short stay there. London was vibey and cutting edge, an old world feel but with new ideas, it felt very much like a city that was constantly reinventing itself. London has many faces."

PL: You were on a mission to make some connections while there to perhaps enable a world tour - where's 2015 taking The Plastics?

The Plastics: "Everywhere. We made loads of good connections and people seemed to really enjoy our music and performances a lot. We have already got some great offers and have also had our minds expanded to the great big world out there. We want to share our music and see as much of this globe as humanly possible."

PL: You got to attend Nouvelle Prague - are there any useful, interesting insights discussed at the event that you'd like to share with fellow musicians back home?

The Plastics: "Take control of your art. Take control of your group or band - you should control your music, your album sales, your ticket sales, your merchandise and do everything the way you want to do it. Don't be complacent, be original , be innovative, be fun."

PL: 'All I really Want' is fast approaching 47,000 listens on SoundCloud in the space of three weeks - it's got quite a different feel to it compared to classic The Plastics tunes. It's a nice change of pace - can we expect a similar sound on the 2015 EP?

The Plastics: "We do have some different feels and grooves on the new EP but since it's not even 100% finished yet, all we can say for now is that we are working hard on it. We are exploring every little sound, note, beat and lyric to make it something that we are truly proud of and that is unique and groovy and cool and sexy and fun and magic and kaleidoscopic."

Catch The Plastics at Mercury in Cape Town on Friday, 12 December. They'll be playing with Taxi Violence and 5FM's Catherine Grenfell will be DJing up a storm on the decks.
