Will MTN's On Air radio conference address SA music industry?

With the MTN Radio Awards coming up shortly, MTN have added the On Air radio Conference to their events list. The conference will focus on radio, featuring panel debates on trends and will examine the challenges and difficulties that radio needs to overcome.

One of these challenges, I'm sure, will be the mounting competition to traditional radio in the form of online streaming radio or internet radio, and the plethora of choice that listeners will have in a few years to come. How will they hold on to their loyal listeners?

While unlikely, I'd like to see the conference address the quota of South African music on commercial radio stations, and perhaps a discussion on how they could support the SA music industry more effectively.

Debates and discussions

The On Air radio conference will take place at the Michelangelo Hotel from 10am until 2pm in Sandton on Friday, 11 April, and is aimed at radio sales people, media strategists, advertisers and marketers.

Expect a panel debate and discussion on multi-channel campaigns and technology and the latest creative trends in radio advertising; Neil Higgs from TNS Research Surveys will give a presentation of the latest research on what SA’s big advertising spenders really think of radio and the value that it offers; and the event will wrap up with an in-depth debate on how to bridge the chasm between advertisers and programmers.

Tickets cost R595 (ex VAT). Contact Marcia Minnaar on +27 (0)11 803 2040 or email marcia@thefuture.co.za.
