Music Exchange 2014 had a lively launch at Cape Town's City Hall on Thursday evening, 6 February, with welcomes and thanks from Martin Myers, founder and board member, and Sipho Mabuse, chairperson and board member, of Music Exchange.

Mabuse commended Razia and Martin Myers on working tirelessly to ensure the success of the conference. He also welcomed musician and actor, Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey, praising him for all he has achieved. Composer and arranger Trevor Jones, who received a standing ovation at last year's conference, also got a special mention from the South African jazz stalwart.

Mabuse paid homage to the late Nelson Mandela saying, "His legacy will always remind us that we can rise above ourselves and be the best we can be - including a black president - despite having others believe otherwise."

Entertainment economy under the spotlight

Attending her second Music Exchange, the City of Cape Town's Beverley Schafer welcomed guests from around the world, "This event brings investors, musicians and students from across the country and the world to share ideas and learn from the best in world music film and entertainment history. This year's event is particularly significant as it will bring the entertainment economy under the spotlight."
