Kiasto to launch Limpopo music organisation

Singer, producer and DJ Kiasto has taken it upon himself to see the launch of a non-profit music organisation in Limpopo. Entertainment of Limpopo Musicians Association (ELMA) aims to help upcoming artists make successful breakthroughs in the South African music industry.

Inspired by a love and passion for the arts, Kiasto noted that musicians in Limpopo are not united in the industry, and this has resulted in the failing of music careers in the province.

Organisational goals

"Our main goal is to see growth and professionalism in the music industry," says Kiasto. "Let them take their music as a career not a hobby."

Some of the bigger issues facing the Limpopo music industry, according to Kiasto, include a lack of; proper resources such as good recording studios, record labels in the area, and knowledge about the music industry.

"[The organisation will help artists] gain more knowledge about the industry as we'll be hosting music workshops, inviting well-known artists and record labels / organisations such as SAMRO to mentor them and teach them crucial things such as copyright etc... We are going to cover strategies in marketing and promotions of their music professionally and request other music distributors and promoters to help us," explains Kaisto.

Industry experts can help the organisation in its mandate by engaging its members in workshops, promotional shows, and at its AGMs.

Lack of unity

Kiasto realised that for many artists in Limpopo, music was a short career as they're usually in a hurry to become popular without going through the hardship: "Instead of doing some research to gain knowledge on how to become a successful artist, they just throw themselves in and find themselves robbed - especially when it comes to signing of contracts," says Kiasto.

Kiasto believes that the South African music industry is lacking in unity: "Most of us think we can do all things on our own without getting any input from fellow artists. It's very rare to find artists in a particular area as one, and that's why our government never considers us as such. We can close this gap if we become one and have one main goal, simple," he says.

Kiasto is the chairman / CEO of Entertainment of Limpopo Musicians Association (ELMA). A new committee will be nominated and elected shortly.
