How to

#BandBrand - Furthering your online presence

For the final part in this series, I will be discussing how to further your band’s online presence through media such as Soundcloud, Instagram and running a blog.

Having a Soundcloud account is vital to your band. It is a platform where you can upload your own tracks and any other kind of audio media. I would encourage you to upload as much as you can. Soundcloud makes it very easy to share music to Facebook and Twitter.

Blog relevant content

To let your fans experience a more personal side to your band, a blog is a good way to connect with them over and above websites like Facebook and Twitter. To get started with a blog, you will need to use a free blogging platform such as Wordpress or Tumblr. Blogging is all about content that is relevant to the subject at hand, in this case your band. This is basically your very own website which you get to manage. Post photos of your jam sessions, your gigs and anything else that your band has been up to. Each band member should have their own profile on the blog, with a bit of information about them so that the readers can learn more.

Share photos and videos

Instagram is a mobile, image-based social network with an emphasis on cool-looking photos. The great thing about Instagram is that you get to share your photos to Facebook and Twitter as well from here, so need to “cross-post” the photos you want to share with your fans. It’s good practice to use hashtags when posting photos, as these are searchable, much like Twitter. As always, its good to upload as much relevant content as you can. A new feature of Instagram is the ability to upload videos up to 15 seconds, which opens a new door of possibilities for your band.

So that concludes the series about embracing social media for your band. Good luck and I hope to hear you on the radio soon!
