Kahn Morbee seeks crowdfunding for SALT

19 Dec 2014 12:10 PM

After years of fronting South African pop rock band The Parlotones, Kahn Morbee is now going solo and performing as KAHN. He's just completed writing his debut solo album, SALT and now needs funding for it to be produced and marketed.

"Now that I am no longer under any management / label obligations, I have decided to go about things differently, and reach out to my friends, fans and family to help me make this album my own," says Morbee.

"In the past, this wasn't a problem, as my recording label would cover those costs and make everything happen - with obvious strings attached and fine prints included! Frankly, the artist and management business model is flawed and archaic.

"Crowdfunding is what I believe to be a better way for an artist to make his art. Through all of my family, fans and friends buying one of my many rewards – we can hopefully reach the dream of R200,000. Reaching this will allow me to focus on creating a masterpiece and allowing my team and me to plan a full SA tour," says Morbee.

The album has been put together with producer and musician, Brendan Jury, as well as Richard Bruyns on lap steel guitar and Neil Pauw on drums.

Milestones:

Milestone 1: R50,000 is The Tipping Point and SALT is a-GO!

Milestone 2: R100,000 allows KAHN more time in the recording studio and he'll be able to hire some of the best talent around to produce a world-class album.

Milestone 3: R200,000 allows KAHN to focus on creating a masterpiece and also allows for a full SA tour.
