That guy from Cassette, Jon Savage... Ja, him, he did that MashLab5 thingy with Rob Vember on 5FM. Me too, I was really getting into all those crazy collabs, oh well... That guy's busy, man... Making a movie... Something about the South African music industry - it's a comedy... Er, Stone Cold Jane Austen.
Jon Savage, every time I tune into Twitter he's doing something new. This time he's doing something big - he's working on a feature-length comedy about the South African music industry, and you'll see some big names on the credit roll - one of which could be yours - he needs your monies.
Naming names
Name-dropping Rob van Vuuren, Jack Parow, Fokofpolisiekar, Chris Chameleon, The Parlotones, Die Heuwels Fantasties and Daniel Beddingfield, I can't tell you at this point whether it's going to be as kak as Mr Bones or as kiff as Material. What I do know is that I need to see it because a. I live for crazy cop car chase scenes, and b. the music industry takes itself far too seriously - it's time for us to let our collective hair down. You can decide after you watch the trailer whether it's worth swiping that credit card over:
So here's what the Savage is promising:
- a HYSTERICAL comedy
- one of the FUNNIEST car chases
- a QUINTESSENTIAL SA music film
- a KILLER accompanying soundtrack
- the COOLEST movie merch ever
- a UNIQUE South African black comedy
And if those superlatives still weren't enough to get you going - what's wrong with you?! - here's an appeal from Savage himself:
"I wouldn’t have spent three years working on this film if I didn’t really believe in it. I’ve actually been day-dreaming this film script for about 10 years and have finally gotten the pieces together to make it. If you can help us make this film, you will not only be making a big dream of mine come true, but you will also see your favourite stars in a totally different light!"
